April Happenings

One cool thing that happened in April, was the Drama 3 Plays!  Katelyn had spent much of the school year in Drama writing, casting, directing, blocking, rehearsing, and acting in these plays. Each of the 14 students in the class wrote a 5-10-minute play.  Then they read them all and casted each other (with their teacher, Mrs. Millet's help). Then they had to direct their own and act in 4 others. They came up with their own set, props, costumes, special effects.... The show was SO much fun to watch!! And Katelyn got to play a wide variety of characters. She actually ended up getting an award for the best acting range!

One play she was in was the Bagged Bagel Debaucle- it was the best written one! Lizzie wrote it with an amazing amount of alliteration. It had an all-star cast of Katelyn and Liam as rival detectives, trying to solve the mystery of Andrea's missing bagels with Naomi as her employee. I recorded it but didn't get any still shots.  It was hilarious- my favorite part was Katelyn and Liam's perfectly timed argument when they were shouting the same witty phrases at each other at the same time- they did so great!!

Then in this one (can't remember the director)- Katelyn was the sister of someone who died. Here she is with Leah, she did a great job acting her grief.

This one I just had to take a lot of pictures of, because she had to pretend to be dating Liam! It was cute.

More on the Drama 3 plays later-- Whitney had a good thing going this Spring and part of the summer, doing soccer training for our neighbor kids, Shon and Bryan Heaton.  Their mom paid her $10 each hour, $15 if their cousin joined in.  She did a great job and learned a lot!

Emma finished her first year of Let's Play Music. She loved it and rocked it!!  She had attended this class as a 2 year old when Maris was in it, so some of it had soaked into her brain already haha.  She has great rhythm and just picks everything up so quickly! Here is her cute class of Emma, Sterling, Haylee, Clay, Emily, Talon, and Melody.
Emma+Haylee=BFFs!! And with sweet Ms Heather.
Playing the autoharp, and singing solfleg. Emma also got to do a bells solo on Once I Met a Dinosaur (she was the only one in the class who could play it fast enough!) while the other kids sang.  But I got a video of that, not a still shot.
I have to put a lot of work into Let's Play Music, so I congratulated myself on finishing the year as well haha.
The kids so excited to say "boo!" at the end of a song!

Back to Katelyn's Drama 3 Show. The play she wrote and directed was amazing and I got a video of it. It was called Arming the Cockroaches, about Prometheus giving fire to the humans, and some other Greek Gods stuff... she had an Allstar cast too, of Shawn, Lizzie, Liam and Andrea. She wrote it really well, it was hilarious, the costumes and props were the best of the night, and she had a special effect of us turning on our cell phone flashlights and shining them, to be the humans with fire out in the audience. She said she didn't end up loving directing, but it was a good experience.
This was the last one she was in- a weird play written by Nathan haha.  She was a knight, she was supposed to be funny and she was! Here she is fighting Ariel,

trying to find Liam the wizard, who was "hiding", and in a confrontation between Liam and Ariel. The play made no sense but she did great!  So in all she got to play a Grieving sister, a Detective, a Knight, and a Girlfriend having friend drama.  And Direct a play about Greek Gods.  So much fun!! I love her Drama teacher SO much!!

For teacher appreciation day I always end up decorating some doors.... here was Owen's teacher's door- seeing the kids in their future professions.  He was really good at talking to them about their futures. And here was Maris' teacher's door- we love Mrs. Warren SO MUCH, she is the sweetest and I'm so glad Maris wasn't in dual immersion so she could have her. Maris happily helped with this door decoration, using flowers we had made for Emma's flower birthday.
Owen ran in the SF city track meet!  It was so fun. he chose to do the 100 and 200.
And last but not least, a left out picture from GV of Maris, and this story about Emma!  We had gone to a soccer game of Whitney's, and against my better judgement I got the kids something to eat from the McDonald's right next to the field. We NEVER eat at McDonald's, (with the exception of breakfast once a year or so- we like their breakfast sandwiches and hash browns!) and the last time we had when Emma was 1, she got hand-foot-mouth disease from the ball pit!  For real.  So I got them some food during Whitney's warmup so they could make it through the game, but by halftime Emma said her stomach was hurting.  By the end of the game she was feeling pretty sick, and then halfway home she threw up in the car. We pulled over in American Fork to clean up, and Eric made her this cone barf cup incase she had to throw up again haha. I will never feed my kids McDonald's chicken nuggets again!!
That ends April!
