Actually first of all, this! Very exciting. Katelyn and a bunch of other awesome kids from ALA got to be Sterling Scholars. She applied in several categories- English, Science, Math, and Theater. And she won Science! She had no chance to advance in science with no extracurriculars or service, and would have had a better chance to advance in Theater than Phoebe did....but the committee thought it would look better on her resume to win in an academic category? Whatever, it was fun to be recognized. :)
And then we got to experience the fun of an 80's Footloose show! This show was actually very frustrating and difficult, from start to finish. But Katelyn really wanted to complete her all 4 years of Musicals in High School! Shrek, Anastasia, Les Miserables, and.....Footloose haha. She tried to make the best of it. Here she is in this amazing time period accurate dress she borrowed from Grammy!! And in the background of the courtroom scene- I had the best view of her from backstage the day I chaperoned back there. And I got to capture these great pics! I love being backstage. Here's Sulice and Katelyn waiting to go on, and Kate and Elias (her old 5th grade buddy) with matching hair and shirts! the 80's lives!
Backstage of Circle before the show. And me and Ruth Walquist with our masterpiece creation! I made the posters and she made the rest, and we put it up together. She's awesome.
Side note- Pretty light shining through my Ash tree and catching all the different colored leaves.
Okay and this was the highlight- Katelyn was Ethyl (Ren's mom)'s Understudy. So for the dress rehearsal she got to perform it!! She did amazing, definitely better than the real Ethyl in my opinion. Her acting was WAY better and her singing just as good or better. (Terrible director- we will never understand so many of her choices throughout the whole process. and she quit 4 months later. ) Christian is fun to act with though!
One of her 2 solos as Ethyl, and Kate in her rightful place with all the stars of the show, on the front row in the courtroom scene.
Katelyn is awesome. The end.
