Katie girl

This big girl is nine!  Here she is opening presents on her birthday morning, wearing super cute new clothes I got her and insisting on doing her own hair, oh my!
She's cute.

She got a lot of books, and chocolate. :)  And that classic nine-year-old ponytail!  It reminds me of my sisters Allison and Katrina who rocked that exact same style at that age!

Here is Katelyn's book cake!  Two chocolate 9x13's stacked.  Vanilla frosting in her favorite color.

And the pictures from the party, in no particular order: Opening presents!
Chocolate pudding eating contest:
Katelyn and Mya, a new friend from ALA.
Katelyn, Emily (an old friend from C.S.Lewis) and Whitney tied for the win!
Playing pictionary with book characters:
Making puppets of their favorite book characters
Book decor:
Wrapped books from DI for the white elephant gift game.
Decor from various books: The entrance to Camp Half Blood from Percy Jackson,
the air vent entrance to the Underland from Gregor the Overlander,
The lamp-post from Narnia,
And platform 9 3/4 from Harry Potter! (hi cousins, so fun that you can come to all our parties now!  And Aunt Allison gets to help with them all haha! Thanks!)
Of course we had an obstacle course, full of elements from Quidditch,

chocolate eating (Marlee, the only other girl in Katelyn's new primary class in Salem)
the Quidditch part again,
going down the playground, (emily)
and up the playground (Natalie)
There was also a tunnel and a sprinkler to go through, and chocolate milk to drink at the end!
Kate being sung to,
and blowing out all those candles!
playing the book exchange game.  Other friends I haven't mentioned yet are on the left couch: Brianna Kelly and Katelyn Patrick, two of our neighbors here.  They are both a year younger than Katelyn but they get along well.  Poor Katelyn though- we invited like 14 people (including 3 boys) and only 6 came!  She has had bad luck with birthday guests, partly because we've given out invites like 2 weeks early right at the end of the school year so I think they've gotten lost/parents have forgotten, and also lots of people go on vacation right after school gets out, and also she has several friends whose parents work and so it's hard for them to get to a party on a weekday in the summer because they are being babysat by someone. She still had fun with a smaller group though; and I was fine with it! :)
Later that afternoon Grandma came over with Katelyn and Maris' presents, and Katelyn was especially thrilled with these Legos!
random picture of Maris with her first braid!
Maris and Owen loved all of Maris' presents: a little people bus, these cool bristle blocks...
and a ride-on Minnie Mouse car!  See how excited she is??
Then since it was Katelyn's magic birthday (9 on the 9th!) we drove ALL the way up to Salt Lake to go to the Cheesecake Factory!  She's been wanting to go there for a long time, because the girl loves cheesecake!
Grandma and Kurtis joined us for a fun time at dinner and the mall...
including the Lego store!  The kids were in heaven.  We love our Katelyn so much.  She really tries so hard to be good and do the right thing.  Her siblings all adore her and crave her attention. She is so helpful to me and Eric.  And so talented and smart!  And spacey and silly.  She leaves half-read books all over the house and hides trash under her bed. :)  And now she's nine years old!
And as a side note, we finally finished the reading nook!  Here is is during a dance party, without books:

And in it's finished state, being enjoyed.  Actually I still have to finish the cushion. :)
