Whitney Mae's first half of 2018

Whitney's first half of 2018 looked a lot like this:

haha. she had to do like 2 hours of reading in Spanish every week and it was HARD. She had to take at least 3 quizzes and get 80% or better on them to get an A in her Spanish reading grade for the week.  So I spent hours with her on this!  She would read the book online once or twice (20-30 pages), then I would help her with the quizzes.  I wouldn't give her the answers-- most of the time I didn't know them anyway because I hadn't read the book!  I would just help her make sure she understood the translations of the questions and answers.  Her Spanish speaking is as good or better than mine at this point, but I can conjugate better because they were just starting to explicitly teach conjugation in 4th grade.  Up until then they just learned by listening and talking.  Also I have a little wider vocabulary than her still.  But not for long!  Anyway she worked really hard and it was good bonding for us.
Reading at a supposed 5th-grade level in Spanish is hard!!
Whitney loved her first ice skating lessons too!
I'm putting this on Whitney's page because I forgot to put it anywhere else.  Our family goals for the year are:
Work on our first response to annoyance/anger
Observe and serve
Try a new food (find at least one new food you like)
Random indoor s'mores one day in january. :)
Whitney rocked her basketball season.  Seriously, she was a 4th grader playing against 3rd and 4th graders, and it just wasn't fair to the other teams sometimes!!  Also I rocked the draft meeting and got us an awesome team, so that helped.  They dominated!

Whitney on the left in her signature bright yellow shorts, playing defense.
the girl tried to pass and Whitney knocked it away. :)

weaving her way around defenders!  Check out that stiff arm lol.
sledding fun!
Playing Oregon Trail with Dad and Owen

It was cute, when Jenae came home from her mission we met up for dinner in Provo and got to meet one of her companions, and I made Whitney sit by them so they could have a conversation in Spanish and jenae could see Whitney's progress.  She was impressed!
Whitney and I went to a Spanglish play at BYU for our date: Romeo y Julieta.  It was AWESOME and so fun and perfect for the two of us. And we went to Waffle Love....mmm....
And Whitney was brave and went up to meet her favorite character afterward, very cool.
Whitney invited Sulice to the Color Festival!
Easter!  i was to glad Whitney loved the dress I picked out for her. And let me curl her gorgeous long hair!

Whitney with her corner of Lego world!
Whitney's future room framed.
Whitney had fun doing Rococo in the Spring. But it conflicted with soccer too much and was stressful, so she may not do it again. We'll see.

Whitney had fun with Hershey Track.
and being one of the 4 fastest in her grade to be on the relay team.
Whitney's 10th birthday!
She wanted an Around the World party!  So we picked a country on each continent to visit and do an activity!  Chile for South America: weaving bookmarks.

getting their passports.
mummies and a treasure hunt in hieroglyphics for Egypt in Africa.

boomerangs for Australia.
making and eating gyoza in Japan for Asia!  Eric even turned on some harp-y Japanese music in the background, it was awesome. I was super impressed that her friends all liked the gyoza!!
World cake!
Oh and a pinata for North America: Mexico!
I like this pic of the bookmark making because it shows Katelyn in the background; she was so helpful!  hiding 6 separate treasure hunts, and doing anything else I needed.
The next day Whitney had a soccer team movie night.  Love these cute girls!
We made these door signs for her teachers:  Mr. Holdaway who was nice but boring,
and Ms. Thornock who was awesome!
Whitney reading a book she bought at the book fair about famous soccer players. :)
Spring soccer!!  On a cold day she wore a pink hoodie under her jersey:
She got to score a goal for the first time in 3 years!  on a penalty kick!  I barely caught this picture of it as it was happening:
She rocks the goal kicks, look at her get off the ground!

Eric and his team.   Assistant Jeff Jones, Kashlyn, Saydee, Ruby, Whitney, Eric.  Bottom row: Camille, Courtney, Megan, Livia, Layla.  Missing in the picture: Lydia.

Last day of school!
My mother's day presents!  Several were from Whitney!

progress on the basement.
after our first summer trip to the library, this was as far into the house as they all got with their books lol.
Family History Trip in Salt Lake Valley with the MacKays!  We saw 16 Lee Ancestors' graves (Great-grandad Mickey Wallwork's family).

not an ancestor but cool to see his grave!

Whitney had fun with her cousins and siblings even though it was a super hot day and we had trouble finding lots of the graves!
