Fall Soccer

Whitney and her team (with their new coach Eric!!) worked hard over the summer and really improved!  Last year they lost most of their games.  This fall, even losing their top scorer from last year and moving up a level in competition, they won 4, tied 3, and lost 1 game!  It was so fun to watch them.

There's Whitney in the middle of the action.
Eric coached Owen's kindergarten team too.  He loved playing goalie,
and was really good at it!
He is just like his dad, totally not afraid to sacrifice his body for the ball, even in the face of an attack!!
In kindergarten soccer there was still a lot of this bunch-up stuff:
and quite a bit of this (falling!):
But as you can see from this rainy game, he was usually one of the tallest kids out there.  So that helped.

Also he really started to understand the game a little better this year.

This game was awesome, he and this kid were going at it the whole time! Eric had to keep telling them not to push!
Eric taught Owen how to play defense a little too.

And the few times he could finally get a breakaway from the crowd, he had decent dribbling skills and he was fast.

Our team wasn't very good; we only scored like 3 goals the whole season!  But one of those was Owen's, in the last game!  So he was happy.  It was cute though, I heard him talking to Maris one time about how she was going to play soccer next year, and he said "the most important thing you have to learn about soccer is, that you can't cry even if you lose like 10-0." It was kind of true! and so cute.
a last couple of pictures of Whitney.
Her adorable team doing their team cheer!
